We extend a warm welcome not only to our current congregation members, but also to their families and friends and to former members of our congregation.  No matter where you live now or how infrequently you attend services, many of you probably have your religious roots here or regard this congregation as your religious home. If you are not making regular donations, we hope that that you will consider contributing to the support of our congregation. Your donations now and throughout the year are needed and greatly appreciated.

It is through the donations of every individual and family in the congregation that we are able to carry on our work. Remember all donations are tax deductible and we now have several ways to give that make giving more convenient than ever.

Cokesbury Church is a 501(c)(3) organization so any gift you make is 100% tax-deductible

To contribute stock, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, business interest, personal property (coins, vehicles, antiques, jewelry, gold, art, etc.) or other types of assets, please contact Mina Colōn   (850) 476-5818. We would also be happy to discuss with you the options of a charitable gift annuity or charitable trust.

You Can Make a Tax-Free Distribution from Your IRA Account

As we approach the end of 2018 many will be discussing their Required Minimum Distribution with their IRA provider.  Using a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a tax-savvy strategy that allows you to transfer up to $100,000 per year from your IRA directly to a qualified charity. It is only available to IRAs and individuals who have reached Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) age (70.5). Any amount processed as a QCD counts toward your RMD requirement and reduces the taxable amount of your IRA distribution. This lowers both your adjusted gross income and taxable income, resulting in a lower overall tax liability.

Here’s how it works:You must be 70½ or older at the time of distribution.

  • You may distribute any amount up to $100,000 in a calendar year to charity, as long it is completed by December 31 of the year in which you intend to make the charitable distribution.
  • Your IRA administrator must make the distribution directly to the charity, or you may write a check payable to the charity from your IRA checkbook. For a sample letter of instruction to your IRA administrator requesting a distribution click here: Letter to IRA Administrators for 2018 Distributions
  • If you make a gift to Cokesbury from your IRA, please include written instructions on how you would like to designate your gift by making a note on your IRA check. You can also call 850-476-5818 or email mina@cokesburyumc.org with your gift designation.

Before proceeding, you should also consult with your tax advisor or IRA plan representative to discuss your particular situation including any impact most recent tax laws.
